Citigate Dewe Rogerson is advising its client the Yorkshire Building Society on its proposed merger with the Chelsea Building Society.

The merger between Yorkshire, the UK's second-largest building society and Chelsea, the country's fifth biggest building society, would create a society with 2.7 million members, a network of 178 branches nationwide and assets of £35bn. The merger is subject to a vote by members and approval by the FSA .

The Citigate team is being led by Grant Ringshaw supported by director Tom Baldock and associate director Angharad Couch.

Grant Ringshaw commented, "CDR has been retained by the Yorkshire Building Society since October 2008. This merger will create a well capitalised business with the scale to prosper and compete against other rivals on the high street."
